2002 Woodland Tournament

Tri -Valley Giants sputter in playoffs

The Tri Valley Giants battled to a 1-1-1 record in Woodland and made it into the first round of the playoffs. Gutsy performances by pitchers Josh Lewis, Carey Thompson, Paul Nichols, Mason Wenger, and Rob Regan kept us in most of the games. Sluggers Tim Durazzo and Jim Gardino led the offensive charge with some clutch hits by River Acciaoli, Mike Milmoe, and Jonathan Parkhurst. The Giants couldn't get things going against the Bay Area All Stars in the first playoff round and got bounced. All in all the Giants had a great time and immediately started setting their sites on the third week of October in Arizona. PS- for those interested in enjoying a slice of Woodland's underbelly, book a night at the Knight's Inn and enjoy the show!

Sonoma All Stars blanked in Woodland

The Crushers went as Sonoma 38+ all Stars.

Game 1, VS Sacramento Cardinals We lost 15 to 10.

Game 2, VS San Jose Rangers. We lost 11 to 0.

Game 3, VS Modesto Oldtimers. We lost 9 to 5.

Sorry to say we were 0-3 for the weekend.

However, our team won the 25 inch TV in the Raffel and we had a great time playing with old friends.

PS.. We are playing in the World Series as the Wine Country Indians in the 38+ Central Division. So, after the regular season ends, we will be looking for a few practice games. I'm working with Clyde Jones to put on a weekend 4-game Series in Fairfield, so we need at least 5 teams, Clyde's team, my team and 3 others.

Nor Cal Stars falter in semi final

The Nor Cal Stars went 3-0 in the round robin play. Outscoring their opponents 26-3, and giving up just one earned run. The Stars was the number one seed in the 28 and over Division, drawing a first round bye.

The Stars lost in the semifinals in a hard-fought well-played game to the Bay Area All Stars 5-2. The Stars benefitted from excellent pitching throughout the entire tournament. The Stars were led by Starters Larry Garza, Dave Giberti, Dave Herren, and reliever Mark Hetterly. The Stars hitting assault was keyed by several players, including Rook Jones, Steve Wiley, Bill Abraham, and Greg Redmond.

Antiques come up short in playoffs

The Antiques went 3-1 in the Carl Flowers Memorial Tournament in Woodland-Davis on Labor Day weekend. Our quest for a 4-peat was denied by the Tri-Valley Diamondbacks, who beat us 8-5 in the semi-final game on Monday morning.

We opened the tournament by beating the Sacramento Solons 17-5.

In Sunday's first game, we hung on to beat the Sacramento Silver Sox 7-6. In the second game on Sunday, we beat the Tri-Valley Diamondbacks 8-2.

We played the Diamondbacks in a rematch on Monday morning in the semi-finals of the tournament. We came back from an 8-2 deficit in the bottom of the ninth, scoring three and getting the tying run to the plate, but came up short, losing 8-5.
