ROCKIES ROLL IN CAL CUP TOURNAMENT

Jed Leake and John Sechler combined to keep a potent Raider offense to just
four runs as the Bay Area Rockies won the 28+ Division Championship in the
Tri-Valley Cal Cup Tournament. The Rockies offense exploded for 11 runs on
21 hits. Lead by Karl Maier, Mike Eberhart and Sean Hedgecock who each had
three hits, the Rockies scored early with a four run outburst in the second
inning and never looked back.
For the week, the Rockies were lead at the plate by Jesse Irwin, Grant Wehr,
Rick Russelle, Sean Lake and Marcus Kittler. Overall, the Rockies outscored
opponents 67 to 20. The Rockies also enjoyed excellent pitching as Jason Clarke
and CJ Martin threw complete game shutouts. CJ Martin pitched a gem going the
distance (7 innings), and pushing the Bay Area Rockies into the Championship game
at Alhambra High School Sunday Morning.

Co-MVP's for the series were Jesse Irwin and Ed Delaney.
Always a threat, Irwin had a great series hitting .500.
Ed Delaney caught 37 of the 40 innings played, earning the Iron Man designation.

Tri-Valley 40's vs Sacramento Rivercats

  The Tri-Valley 40's took home the trophy for the second consecutive
year, beating the Sacramento Rivercats 13-7 in the finals. After trailing
5-1, the 40's outscored the 'Cats 12-2, over the last seven innings, to notch
the victory.
  Tournament MVP Kirk Marshall, ( .857 ave., 5 walks, 4 stolen bases, 8
runs scored, on base all 12 times at bat ) went 2-2, and scored 3 runs. Rob
Noble had a single, a double, on base all 4 times at bat, while scoring 3
runs. Bill Williams had 4 RBIs, while Tony Walker and Dave Born each scored
twice for the 40's.
  Starting pitcher, Mike Pankow, gave up only 2 unearned runs after the
second inning for a complete game win.
