18+ Division
The "Powerhouse" PCL Bombers managed by Jeff
Pennwarden went undefeated throughout the tournament in route to a
4-2 win over the PCL Barracudas in the championship game. Outstanding
performance by winning pitcher Eric Orue who threw all nine innings
while striking out 6 for his complete game gem. Offensively the
Bombers were led by Adrian Torres who was 2-4, and hitting star of
the game Mike Jaramillo who's game winning "clutch" base
hit scored two runs leading the Bombers to victory, Mike was also 2-4
for the day.
The PCL Barracudas managed by James DuPrey were an impressive
team led by Justin Collins who carried the Barracudas during the
playoffs on his back by pitching both the quarterfinal and semifinal
games, and went 1-3 with an RBI in the championship game.

28+ Division
The NorCal Stars managed by Steve Apodaca dominated the 28+
division going undefeated in their bracket and playoffs, the
championship game was a "slugfest" as the Stars defeated
the Redwood Empire Braves 15-9 in an action packed game. Leading the
way was Stars pitcher Dave Herren who turned in a gutty performance
picking up the win, while the bulk of the offensive was ignited by
Leonard Pleasant who went 3-5, triple and 1 RBI, Carlos Morales 4-6,
HR, double and 3 RBI, and Greg Redmond who stole the show by going
4-5, 2 HR's, 3 runs scored, 4 RBI plus a walk.
The Redwood Empire Braves managed by Mark Bartlett, played
solid baseball defeating quality teams throughout the tournament to
advance to the championship game. Steve Nelson provided the offensive
punch going 2-3 with 1 run scored in the losing effort.

38+ Division
The Championship game featured host teams the Tri-Valley 40's
and their arch rivals the Tri-Valley Mariners. The teams first met in
the quarterfinal game demonstrating "offensive firepower"
but when the smoke cleared the two teams were deadlocked in a 17-17
tie. The stage was set, players ready to perform and the final saw
the Tri-Valley 40's out scoring
the Tri-Valley Mariners in an 8-4 victory. Pitching played a key role
for the TV 40's as Pocholo Santos pitched 5 innings recording the win
along with Chuck Gibson who shutout the Mariners and closed the show.
Offensively the 40's were led by ex-former major leaguer Tony Walker,
who was with the Houston Astros, and was 3-4, doubled and scored 2
runs. Dave Beren was a perfect 3-3. The big blow came in the 7th
inning when Vince Massaro hit a two-run homer along with his 2-4 day
to seal the deal.
The TV Mariners managed by Chris Gillespie had notable efforts
from pitcher Daryl Mullins who went the distance, while John Brewster
and Mike Lyon provided the offense for the Mariners.

48+ Division
The "ageless ones" the 48+ division pitted the host
team Tri-Valley Tigers managed by Bill Tonis against the Fresno
Grizzlies coached by Jake Klassen. This championship game by far and
away was the most competitive with the Tri-Valley Tigers edging the
Grizzlies 5-4 in a well played evenly matched game. The
"workhorse" John Hughes, who is a regional
scout for the Montreal Expos, handled the pitching for the Tigers.
John was called on during the semifinal game in which he pitched the
final 6 innings. He then reached back for an incredible performance,
throwing all 9 innings and leading the Tigers to the championship.
Complimenting Hughes performance was Burlin Germany who hit a solo
home run early to put the Tigers out in front, later Randy Hooper
tripled adding to the lead. Doak Jones' timely hitting put it out of
reach, Doak went 1-2 with a walk, a late inning home run and 2 RBI.
The Fresno Grizzlies were led by Bert Avail who was 2-3, walk,
scored a run and doubled, and Tom Sharp who was 2-4 with a HR and 1 RBI.
Lastly, I'd like to make mention of a very special player in
this tournament. He's the Grizzlies manager Jake Klassen, what a
wonderful guy, by the way he's 71 years young and not only plays
second base for his team but also I was told hits "laser
shots" according to the Tiger team. This is truly what it's all
about, the passion this wonderful human has he displays not only on
the ball field but with everyone he comes in contact with, he's
without a doubt my role model. I'd give anything to be where he's at
if and when I reach his age simply said, the "love for the
game" and competing with the guys, Jake you're our hero....
